Stripes, Sequins and Birds

"Mommy, what about this one?"
Princess Sparkles said as she showed me a dress.
I told her I thought it was a little sequin-y for me.
"I want to choose a dress for Mommy,"
Pigtails exclaimed as she showed me a birdie print one.
I laughed as I realized the girls were showing me dresses they would wear.

The striped dress is something I got in a swap from Fedora.  I love the cut outs on the shoulder and I decided to pair it with my navy Newbury booties.  The second outfit is my uniform of denim cut offs, t-shirt, cardigan and booties.  The turquoise cardigan I got at Target for $15.  The t-shirt came from Gingham in a swap.  And the fringe booties are a fave pair I got from F21.

I'm still loving my navy booties.  They can be dressed up or down.  And they really do go with anything, even a sequin or birdie dress!

Utility Jacket, Black Blazer and a Night Owl

"You know I'm nocturnal,"
Princess Sparkles said as she got ready for bed.
I didn't know.  In fact, I didn't know she knew what nocturnal meant.
"I don't sleep at night.  I wake up.  And then I play."
No wonder she's so tired in the morning.

SUEDE SKIRT - Ann Taylor (thrifted)
TRIBAL PRINT TOP - Target (thrifted)
OLIVE UTILITY JACKET - Old Navy
CAGE HEELS - Kelsi Dagger
BLACK BRACELET - iSanctuary
TURQUOISE EARRINGS - Shop With A Mission

BLACK BLAZER - Kate Young for Target
BLACK TANK - Alternative Apparel
WASHED OUT DENIM SHORTS - Buffalo
CHEVRON NECKLACE - iSanctuary
HARROW BOOTIES - Rag & Bone

Here are a few outfits from the week.  The first I wore to Shabbat dinner at my friend's house.  The suede skirt and tribal print top are both thrifted and the Kelsi Dagger heels I found on clearance at Loehmanns for $11.  The second outfit I'm linking up to "Inspiration Monday" from Two Birds.  I paired some acid wash shorts with my Kate Young for Target blazer and Rag and Bone booties.

What happens when you don't sleep at night...

The great thing about a jacket, whether a casual utility one or a dressier black blazer, is it really pulls together an outfit.  It's also perfect for a cool summer evening, especially if you happen to be nocturnal.

Rag and Bone Harrow Boots and Privacy

"Don't look at my privacy,"
Pigtails said as I helped her change into her watermelon dress.
I averted my eyes as I put on her "panty wear."
I asked her if she wanted to wear her usual leggings.
"No, I want that gold skirt."
Pigtails definitely has her own special way of layering.
Like how she made me put her in two princess nightgowns at the same time.
Because... "Mommy, it's comfortable."

BLACK AND WHITE FLORAL TOP - Forever 21 (swapped)
GRAY CUT OFFS - Black Orchid
OFF WHITE CARDIGAN - Old Navy
BRACELET, NECKLACE - iSanctuary
BLACK BOOTIES (not pictured) - Hogan (thrifted)

GRAY AND YELLOW BUTTON UP TOP - CAbi (thrifted)
LIGHT WASH DENIM CUT OFFS - Express
HARROW BOOTIES - Rag and Bone

I got the floral top from a swap I did with girlfriends and the gray cut offs were on clearance at Loehmanns.  The black booties you can't see (thanks to Bucket) were thifted by my mom, Fair Isle.  They're Hogan and they're fabulous!  The light wash jeans have been a staple for me lately.  They match everything.  The top was thrifted from GW after Gingham spotted it on the rack.  The Harrow boots are the nicest thing I own.  My sis-in-law, Argyle, got them for me at American Rag.  I LOVE them!!!  Walked a couple miles in them and they didn't hurt at all!

Pigtails poses with Bucket in her watermelon dress (and my sunglasses!)

Yes, I'm still wearing cut offs.  A lot of them.  It's just hot and well, I like them.  But don't worry, you can't see my privacy and honestly, they're just so darn comfortable.

4th of July Outfit, Feather Print Shorts and Cheese

"Cheeeeeeese!!!"
Bucket says when I pull out my camera.
He loves to turn on the charm.
He also loves Pigtails' silver glitter ballet flats.
Who can blame him.

NAVY & RED STRIPED PEPLUM - Urban Outfitters
WHITE DENIM SHORTS - Gap
BRACELET - J Crew (gifted)
AQUA WEDGES - Target (thrifted)

FEATHER PRINT CUT-OFFS - Jessica Simpson (via Macys)
LIGHT CHAMBRAY SHIRT - American Eagle
DREAM CATCHER EARRINGS - iSanctuary
OPEN TOE BOOTIES - Charlotte Russe

Here are a few looks from the week.  The first outfit I put together in anticipation of "4th of July."  The top I got for $10 at Urban Outfitters.  I asked Princess Sparkles if I should wear chestnut wedges or aqua ones and she said the aqua ones were more interesting.  The second outfit includes a pair of feather print cut offs I got at Macys for $6.  I love wearing booties with shorts!  Linking both of these outfits up to "Inspiration Monday" from Two Birds.

Bucket dancing around in Pigtails' glitter shoes

Cheeeeeeeeese!!!

I was excited to find a way to change up the typical patriotic outfit.  I love an unexpected twist - like mixing "interesting" aqua wedges with red, white and blue, or a baby boy flashing a cheesy smile in some silver glitter ballet flats.

Neon, Stripes, Light Wash Denim and a Big Sister

"You're not my mom anymore,"
Princess Sparkles informed me.
I felt a little sad until she explained,
"You're my big sister because you're not that old."

PURPLE AND YELLOW STRIPED TOP - Loft
LAVENDER CUT OFFS - Hot Kiss (via Marshalls)
SPIKED EARRINGS - 99 Cent Depot
YELLOW KHAKI WEDGES - Old Navy

MULTI-PRINT DRESS - Scrapbook
DENIM JACKET - Free People
MINT FEDORA - Eugenia Kim for Target
BLACK WEDGE BOOTIES - Target

Here are a few outfits from the week.  I've been wearing shorts a lot since it's been hot.  I have a handful of colorful cut offs I like wearing.  I was excited when this striped top I got on clearance at the Loft for $10 matched with my purple shorts.  I'm linking this up to "Inspiration Monday" from Two Birds.  The second outfit I wore to Princess Sparkles' kindergarten promotion.  I paired it with the light wash denim jacket I got from Loehmanns and a fedora from Target.

Sparkles models her creative head piece.

I love wearing cut offs.  But now that I'm a mom, I worry if it's okay for me to still wear my short shorts.  I don't want to be inappropriate or the mom who wears things she probably shouldn't.  At least Sparkles thinks I'm not that old... yet.

Fringe Boots, Shorts and a Big Girl

"Look, I'm a big girl now," Pigtails shouted proudly.
Camouflage accidentally put one of Princess Sparkles' shirts on Pigtails.
She decided that made her older.
Princess Sparkles wasn't exactly amused.
I'm just glad Pigtails doesn't mind the hand-me-downs.

Monday's Inspiration - Jessica Alba

Today's "Inspiration Monday" from Two Birds is Jessica Alba. I decided to link up this outfit which I wore to the local fair Saturday night. It's my "transitional" outfit with the jacket and boots (both old favorites), but shorts too! I added a pop of color with bright orange lips and coral earrings."

The "big girl" in her sister's shirt

The fun thing about this time of the year is mixing fall clothes with summer ones.   And there's nothing better than wearing shorts and boots (okay, really I just love wearing boots!).  It's almost as good as getting to wear one of your big sister's tops!

Studded Tank, Cut up Tee and an F-Bomber

"Stop using the F-word!"
Princess Sparkles shouted in a busy restaurant.
"Shhhh!" I said, completely horrified.
"Mommy, Pigtails keeps saying fart."
I knew that, but I don't think everyone else did.

STUDDED NAVY TANK - Thrifted
GRAY KIMONO CARDI - Thrifted
BLEACHED DENIM CUT-OFFS - Express, $15
BLUE PRINTED WEDGES - Old Navy, $14
NECKLACE - Betsey Johnson

It's been hot and I can't seem to get myself to wear much else besides tanks and cut-offs.  The tank and cardi were thrifted by Fair Isle and I got everything else on clearance, even the necklace!  Lately my new obsession is cutting up t-shirts.  I buy them and cut off the sleeves.  I'm a huge fan of Alternative Apparel but recently the Target tees have been on sale for $5 (they now make crew neck too!), so I've been buying those!

One of my Target tees masterpieces (oh, and $1 store earrings!!!)

The girls smiling for a pose after I bribed them... sigh.
(their "hairbands" are from my cut up t-shirt)

Fierce posing F-bombers

Being a mom of three, especially a 6-month old, means it's important to wear comfy clothes I don't care too much about.  Tees and tanks are perfect for that, especially when they're only $5.  Because no one likes getting stuff on their nice clothes.  It'll make 'em wanna drop an F-bomb.  (I was talking about the word fart, sillies!)

Tanned, Mobile and An eShakti Giveaway

"Baby, you did it!"
Princess Sparkles enthused as Bucket army crawled.
Camouflage loves to put the TV remote in front of Bucket
(and like most men, he loves to reach for said remote).
However, I have reservations.  He's only 5 months.
And I like the fact that 1 of my 3 kids can't go anywhere.

IKAT TOP - Old Navy, $6
ORANGE CUT-OFFS - Forever 21, $12.50
BRACELET - T & J Designs
LEOPARD RING - Forever 21
FRINGE NECKLACE - Made by my mom
FRINGE STILETTOS - Qupid

The Payless wedges I ended up changing in to :)

Yesterday I got a spray tan from my good friend, Bronzer.  I only had one done before my wedding, so it was fun to try it again.  I was originally wearing gray and white, and realized, it did nothing for my newly tanned self.  So I decided to go with some bright F21 cut-offs and a brown ikat top that sorta matched my new skin tone.  I started out wearing these awesome fringe stilettos, but in the end realized that I would probably not be able to wear these out all day.

The GIVEAWAY!!!

Remember this dress? Well, eShakti inadvertently sent me a second one. So they said I could give it away! It's a great one shoulder maxi, size Medium (or an 8). It was a tad looser than the measurements said but I was able to belt it. It's pretty long, I'm 5'2 but wearing 5 inch heels!!!

Here's what you have to do to enter:

- FOLLOW Spinning Threads via GFC
- Leave me a comment telling me where you'd wear this dress :)

***for a BONUS ENTRY, "like" Spinning Threads on facebook

Bucket army crawls to the TV remote

I love to wear sky high heels, but I'll admit, while they look good on, they don't always feel good.  And while I'm all for suffering for fashion, I unfortunately have to be practical at times, especially now that I'll be chasing 3 mobile kiddos!
