Brights, Floral Dr. Martens and Last Names

"I'm gonna name her Vicky,"
Princess Sparkles said as she held up a bug she decided to keep as a pet.
"I thought you named her Katy," I said.
"Well her first name is Katy and her last name is Vicky."
Princess Sparkles thought for a sec then...
"I know, her last name is Plant because she eats plants."
"Well is your last name, Spaghetti?" Camouflage asked from the kitchen.
"No.  But your last name should be Spicy Stuff and [Bucket] should be Yogurt!"

WHITE DRESS - Target
DENIM VEST - Forever 21

BOOTIES - Dr. Martens

The bright colored outfit is what I wore for Mother's Day.  The dress is from a boutique in Fullerton and I paired it with the necklace Fair Isle and Henley bought me for Mother's Day.  Since the necklace had yellow in it, I decided to go all out and wear a yellow cardigan.  I wore the boots to offset the girliness.  The white dress, vest and docs I wore to a school performance Princess Sparkles had on Saturday.  Linking it up to "Inspiration Monday" from Two Birds.

Mr. Bucket Yogurt

For Mother's Day I told Camo I wanted to spend time shopping with my mom.  So Fair Isle and I went on a "road trip" to our favorite Goodwills.  Although we did eventually eat (after all the GWs closed), Fair Isle and I joked that we'd forgo eating for shopping.  I guess if Sparkles was to give me a last name it'd be Shopping!

Motorcycle Vest and a Good Baby

Bucket and I flew to Seattle over the weekend for a family reunion.
It was his first plane flight and he did amazingly well.
We stayed with my cousin, Cupcake, and his partner, Gilmore.
Although we were away from his sisters, Bucket probably didn't notice
since Cupcake and Gilmore's scotties were all over him.
"I don't like kids," I overheard Gilmore say while carrying Bucket.
Then with a slight smirk he said, "But this baby is good."

PRINTED DRESS - Macys, $6
MOTORCYCLE VEST - Local Boutique, $15
LONG NECKLACE, BRACELET - Jewelry by Cynde Daniels
NECKLACE - c/o Anjolee
GREEN WEDGES - Seychelles, $10

Monday's Inspiration - Elizabeth Olsen

Today's "Inspiration Monday" from Two Birds is Elizabeth Olsen in a sundress and moto vest.  I personally LOVE a vest, and I got this motorcycle one from a store that was closing down for only $15!!!  The dress was from Macys and I got it to nurse in since it's strapless.  And it was only $6!!!  The wedges I got at a Seychelles warehouse sale for $10.

A family reunion (in Port Orchard) makes Bucket happy

Bucket gets kisses from the scotties

I like pairing a motorcycle vest with a dress.  It gives the girly piece an edge.  There's something about a tough piece mixed with a soft one.  It adds just the right touch.  Like a baby in the arms of a guy who "doesn't like kids!"

In Loving Memory of our TV

"Mommy, you're not proud of us anymore,"
Princess Sparkles told me after I scolded her and Pigtails.
I reassured them I was still proud of them but I wasn't happy with what they did.
Lately they've been extra naughty (maybe it's the heat!).
Pigtails recently took a plastic golf club to the TV.
Unfortunately the TV did not make it.

STRIPED HI-LO SKIRT - Target, $6
LAVENDER TANK - Bebe
VEST, WEDGES - Old Navy, $6, $14
NECKLACE - c/o GS Lillian
PHOTOBOMBER - Pigtails, the "TV golfer"
Monday's Inspiration - Kristin Cavallari

Here is my version of "Inspiration Monday" from Two Birds.  I decided to go opposite of Kristin Cavallari and wear a striped mullet skirt and a purple tank.  I paired it with two Old Navy clearance purchases, the vest which was $6 and the wedges which were $14.

The Victim

The Culprit

Despite this skirt being neutral colored I still find it difficult to figure out what to wear it with besides white and cream but I was glad for the lavender inspiration.  And now that I don't have a TV for a while, I guess I'll have more time to experiment in my closet!

Patriotic Cut-Offs and a Parade

"Mommy, I can't hold your hand.  I'm waving to the people."
Princess Sparkles marched in a parade on Independence Day.
She even had the princess wave, which she learned at Disneyland.
Meanwhile, when asked about her favorite part of the fireworks,
Pigtails replied, "the dog."  It was sitting next to us at the park.

STARS AND STRIPES CUT-OFFS - Forever 21
NAVY SWEATER VEST - Target
BLACK NURSING TANK - Target
BLACK SANDALS - Target (thrifted)
FEDORA - Eugenia Kim for Target

L-R: Rimmel (midnight blue), Essie (limited addiction),
Sally Hansen (Blue Pacific), Essie (Lapis of Luxery), Essie (Playa del Platinum)

Here's what I wore for the 4th of July.  I was so excited by these printed cut-offs from Forever 21.  I decided to go with a black nursing tank for easy feeding for Bucket (it was a long day) and this long navy vest so I wasn't just in my tank top.  The sandals were thrifted from the GW and the hat was one I purchased when Eugenia Kim did a design for Target.

Sparkles in the parade

I'm very excited to wear my patriotic cut-offs, for every American holiday and especially for the summer Olympics.  They are surprisingly versatile and a parade of fun!

A Faux Leather Fur Vest and other "Accessories"

Lately Pigtails has been really into accessorizing.
Unlike Princess Sparkles who loves tutus, crowns and anything girly, Pigtails prefers paper bags, buckets and toys.  She's creative with how she wears them too, often over her head so she can't see.  Then she runs...right into the walls.

DRESS - Liz Lange Maternity (Target), $7
FAUX LEATHER AND FUR VEST - Target
WOOD BRACELET - Heavenly Treasures
ORANGE PATENT HEELS - Vince Camuto (Thrifted), $10

Here's a maternity dress I recently got on the clearance racks at Target for $7.  I was trying hard NOT to buy anymore maternity clothes, but I couldn't help myself with this dress (and the super sweet Pastor Pleats generously gave me a Target gift card - Thanks, Pastor Pleats!).  I'm wearing it with my thrifted heels, but boots would be great too!  I'm also wearing a Target vest I purchased a few years ago.  I love it because it reminds me of the 70's!

Pigtails wearing her "hats"
and her "bracelets"
I know, I've been wearing a lot of vests lately.  But they're so practical, not only do they keep me warm and don't restrain my arms, but they help pull together an outfit.  Like Pigtails and her "hats," they've become my favorite accessory!

Colorful Tights, a Moto Vest and $10 Boots

BLACK DRESS - Thrifted from another mom's garage FREE!
GRAY MOTO VEST - My Beloved, $15
PLAID INFINITY SCARF - Made by my mom
EARRINGS - T&J Designs (from Monday Mingle giveaway)
AQUA TIGHTS - Nordstrom
RED PURSE - B Makowsky, $85
BLACK BOOTS - Old Navy, $10

My $10 boots from Old Navy!!!
"Mommy, [Pigtails] threw a pebble into the toilet!"  I went over to check and indeed she had.  I would've fished it out but Sparkles likes to pee and often forgets to flush and I wasn't digging my hand in yellow water to get that little thing so I flushed it down. Hope it doesn't mess up our pipes...

When I first found out I was pregnant I checked out craigslist and bought a few pieces from a mom in her garage.  She threw in some freebies and this dress was one of them.  It has chiffon sleeves which I like.  I wore a scarf so I could link up to Silverstyle's "Trending Through The Decades" But sadly I missed out :(  I also wore tights so I could do Everybody Everywear.  Again, too late.  The upside is I'm wearing these cute black boots I got at Old Navy for $10!  They were on clearance AND I had a coupon.  My mom, Fair Isle, told me she could even put faux fur on them, so I'm excited about that!!!

I'm so lucky to have a talented mom like Fair Isle who can sew and make me some really great things (like my scarf and some cool cuffs!).  Unlike her daughter, who's not so good at being meticulous (okay, it's kinda an excuse).  Just feel like I often mess things up - like missing out on some really cool link ups - though hopefully I did NOT mess up our toilet!

Remixing a Summer Dress for the Fall

FLORAL DRESS - Old Navy
FAUX LEATHER JACKET - Loehmanns
CHAIN NECKLACE - Downtown LA Fashion District
GRAY WEDGE BOOTIES - Jeffrey Campbell

HOW I WORE IT IN APRIL:
DENIM VEST - American Eagle
LEATHER WRAP BRACELET - Made by my mom
PINK PEEP-TOE HEELS - Seychelles
Recently, my sister Polka Dots went out and when she came back Princess Sparkles asked her what she did.  Polka Dots told her she saw "The Help."  Sparkles asked if she too could see the movie with her Auntie but Polka Dots told her "probably not" since they said some bad words.  Princess Sparkles replied, "Like what?"  Then she whispered, "Did they say... I don't like Jesus?"

Today for the fashion challenge from Megan Mae Daily and Casual Chic Kiki, I'm remixing a summer dress for the fall.  I decided to wear my $6 floral dress from Old Navy and my favorite Jeffrey Campbell booties (or "skates" as Princess Sparkles calls them) which I actually think you can wear year-round!

Pigtails photobombs my pic
It's been a busy week with Polka Dots around and Princess Sparkles' birthday.  I have something cool I've been meaning to share with my blog friends though I think I'll wait until I finish the fashion challenge to tell everyone.  I also received a couple really cool awards from some blog friends and can't wait to post those too!

Anyway, I'm not especially loving the heat.  It was difficult to remix this dress for the fall in 90+ degree weather (luckily I snapped these photos earlier in the morning).  I hope it starts to cool off soon, otherwise I too might be saying some bad words :)

Statement Necklace and Beaded Cuff - Dressing Up Shorts and a Tank

BLACK VEST - Loehmanns
BROWN TANK - Gap
BROWN SHORTS - Gap
BLACK PATENT STRAPPY WEDGES - Victoria's Secret
AFRICAN BEADED NECKLACE - Heavenly Treasures
BEADED LEATHER CUFF - Heavenly Treasures

I really appreciate how Pigtails can make herself comfortable wherever we go (maybe this is one of those survival skills learned by 2nd children).  Today we went to my friend Shiny's house.  Shiny recently had a baby (her 4th!!!) and we brought her family some lunch and other goodies.  Pigtails immediately made herself comfortable, grabbing a car to push around on the racetrack, picking the "tall chair" to eat her lunch in, and making herself comfortable on the kiddy couch with her sippy cup of milk.  She just made herself part of the family.

Pigtails gets comfortable
Because we were hanging out at Shiny's house, I decided to keep with something comfy.  It was a pretty hot day and I wasn't in the mood to really get dressed up.  I decided on neutrals and threw a vest on (because I'm obsessed with them).  I also wore a statement necklace, just to add a little fanciness to my shorts and tank ensemble.

Anyway, it ended up being a nice relaxing day (Thanks, Shiny!).  It helped that I could wear my casual "mommy outfit."  I guess Pigtails wasn't the only one getting comfortable today!

Matching Denim on Denim

DENIM VEST - American Eagle
CAPRIS - American Eagle
T-SHIRT -
RED BELT - Thrifted
WHITE LEATHER CUFF - Made by my mom
MULTI RING NECKLACE - Jaclyn1423
RED/BLUE/PINK HEELS - Charlotte Russe

I'm always amazed at Pigtails' fearlessness.  She is not afraid to do anything.  Sometimes it's great, like when she's at her swim lessons, and sometimes it's not so great, like when we're at the playground and she wants to run down a steep slide.  She always seems to have some sort of "war wound," usually on her face where everyone can see.  Her current one is a huge shiner/scrape on her left cheek which she got from one of our many park visits when she tripped and caught herself with her face.

Today I think I broke a fashion rule.  Oops!  I want to say there are major rules about wearing denim on denim and I just can't keep up with what they are anymore.  But I believe you are NOT supposed to wear two pieces of denim in matching colors and that is exactly what I'm doing today.  It seemed like my t-shirt was lonely by itself and since I love a vest, I went with my denim one.  (Oh, and that pink band around my elbow is NOT a fashion statement, I just had to get blood taken at the doctor's office).

I kinda liked how the look turned out in the end.  I might've gotten a serious scolding from Tim Gunn (who probaby would've also said short people shouldn't wear capris...in fact, I think I just read him saying that in my magazine) but sorry, Mr. Gunn, I'm doing it anyway.  I guess I'm taking a page from Pigtails' book on fearlessness but only when it comes to fashion.

Floral Dress and Denim Vest - Inspiration Monday on Friday!

FLOWER DRESS - Belle Du Jour (Thanks, Polka Dots!)
CROCHET BELT - a local boutique
DENIM VEST - American Eagle
GREEN WEDGES - Seychelles
GREEN FEATHER EARRINGS - Charlotte Russe
Monday's Inspiration:
Gwyneth Paltrow
Princess Sparkles asked me two things today.  "What is that diamond out there?"  It was a gymnasium in the shape of a pyramid which I equated to one of her TV shows and she totally knew what it was.  And she asked, "what is directing?"  I told her it was when you tell someone what to do.  I always appreciate her questions because she always keeps me on my toes!

Today I think I'm finally going to link up to "Inspiration Monday."  I know, it's Friday, but it's been a long week.  I'm actually wearing a dress I stole from Polka Dot's closet (my little sis) and I paired it with my favorite denim vest (I love a vest because it always seems to make me look slimmer) and green Seychelle wedges I got at a warehouse clearance sale a few years back.

Anyway, I better get the girls ready for swimming lessons.  It's always a challenge to take them to the pool because Pigtails is everywhere.  Princess Sparkles may test me mentally, but Pigtails literally keeps me on my toes!

***Happy weekend!  Please enter my giveaway.  Thanks!
